Italy is an extremely popular tourist destination for people from all over the world. The country is home to some of the finest foods, an extravagant history, and impressive landscapes. The Colisseum, the Vatican, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Florence’s intricate bridge of Ponte Vecchio, and the canals of Venice are all popular sites around the country. Some of the world’s top beaches in Sardinia and the beautiful coastline at Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast are very well worth the visit, as well.

I spent 17 days in Italy on one trip while living in Prague. I had made two good friends from Sardinia, and they were nice enough to host me on the incredible island for a week. I have not had many experiences like it. Touring the island with locals, staying with a family in the Sardinian countryside, and experiencing a week of home-cooked Italian meals made the week unforgettable. Their hospitality was amazing, and I’ll always be thankful for them hosting me and showing me their culture.

Sardinia really is one of my favorite places. I still have plans to get back there in the future. The beaches, like I mentioned, are some of the world’s best with crystal clear waters and fine sand. The people are laid back and just enjoy life’s simple pleasures; a fine cappuccino, a two hour dinner, or a day at the beach.

Mainland Italy is just as interesting, especially if you’re into art and history.
